Safety Training


CSTS - basic safety training in workplace hazards, personal protective equipment, housekeeping, ladders and scaffolds, tools and equipment, emergency response, WHMIS and environmental issues.


First Aid - Standard first aid with level A CPR. This course will provide you with the training to give first aid on the worksite in accordance with OH&S regulations. As well basic first aid is valuable for the home.


Confined Space - confined space training in air monitoring, entry and egress, personal protective equipment, attendant duties, hazards, permits.

Respirator use - training in the selection of the proper respirators, use of MSDS sheets to choose filters, proper fit and testing, how the respiratory system works.


Fall protection - training in identifying fall hazards, selecting fall protection system, types of personal fall protection systems, what happens when you fall, fall arrest systems, inspection and maintenance.


Rigging and Hoisting - training in the selection and use of slings, operation of overhead cranes, potential hazards, weight charts, hoisting signals.


Manlift Operator Safety Training - training in the operation of aerial work platforms including boom lifts and scissor lifts. The course includes equipment, manuals, hazards, inspection of equipment and site conditions.


Forklift safety - training in the use of lift trucks including, knowledge of the stability triangle, load stability, types of forklift, inspections, and safe driving skills. This course is valuable to those working in glass shops and painting shops.


Scaffold safety - training in the use of scaffold systems including; planning, inspection, load capacity, construction of scaffolds, access, fall protection and more.

Lead Abatement - training in the safe removal of lead based paints. The course includes the dangers of lead, the use of proper containments, the removal and disposal of the lead and lead contaminated materials.

The length of each course will vary, CSTS, respirator, forklift safety are 4 hour courses. Rigging and hoisting, confined space, fall protection and manlift safety are a full day. Standard first aid is a 2 day course.

The Training Coordinator is also available to participate in safety meetings to provide information in ladder safety, hearing conservation, and proper use of power tools, electrical hazards, back care and many other subjects involved in safety.
